Six people are dead and two people are missing after a boat carrying 10 passengerscapsized on Lake Tahoe, according to officials. On Saturday, June 21, the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office "received multiple reports of a capsized boat in South Lake Tahoe," the sheriff's office said in a post on Facebook. "Callers indicated that approximately 10 individuals were in the water near the vessel, with reported wave heights reaching 8 feet." At around 3 p.m. local time, the Coast Guard Station Lake Tahoe sent a response crew to assist California State Parks and the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office in the search. The boat capsized nearD.L. Bliss State Park, in South Lake Tahoe, California. Of the 10 passengers, six were found dead, two were rescued and taken to the hospital, and two others are still missing, theReno Gazette Journal, a part of the USA TODAY Network reported. The group was on board a 27-foot Chris-Craft boat in the afternoon when a storm caused up to 8-foot swells. USA TODAY has reached out to the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office for more information. The ages and names of the victims have not been made public, but officials said that all six of the deceased were adults. "The identities of the deceased will not be released until next-of-kin notifications have been made," the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office said on Facebook. It is unknown if there were children on board the boat or if passengers were wearing life jackets when the boat capsized. The EDSO Search and Rescue and the EDSO Dive Team returned to the location where the boat capsized Sunday morning to continue their search. The U.S. Coast Guard is alsoassistingwith the search.
